Being grateful
We were at my in-laws and we didn’t see them for a long time, it was good. We sat down for dinner, and my in-laws are very Christian so they pray before dinner. They always did this, but we don’t so I kind of forgot about it. They prayed out loud, and thanked the lord for the dinner, blessed the hands that prepared it etc. and it suddenly hit me. They do this every day. Every day they are being grateful for having food and on this day for having us there safe and sound as company.
I read a lot about self growth, finding happiness. Finding your true self, being grateful. And a lot of ways of being grateful sticked with me from those readings. It sounded like something so easy to do. My Headspace was suggesting me some time to keep a gratefulness journal, write 3 things down every day you are grateful for. I couldn’t keep up, not that I didn’t have 3 things to be grateful for every day but more the taking time to sit down a moment and reflect.
But at that dinner, I put two things together. People who pray daily, be grateful for what they receive, and being happy. They are already on a path of finding themselves, and the road to be happy, even if they don’t realise it. But just with taking a moment, to pray and be grateful for whatever reason they might have. And the other moments of silent prayer, they would be moments of meditation. And every religion has their rules or guidelines, some more strict than others but most follow the same line of thought. Be good for yourself, be good for others. Find happiness, find yourself and your place in the world.
While I don’t have a certain faith, there’s something to believe in.. and I could do this too. Take a moment daily to reflect and be grateful. And hopefully take my own steps to finding happiness and being grateful for what I have.
