The Cold Shower
We’re in the amazon, and even though it’s hot and humid we would like to have a warm shower. We were in a cabin first that had an electric shower but it was not connected. Someday, we finally managed to get someone to connect the shower but then the cables burned through since it was pulling too much power. And the cables were old and bad quality. We let it be.
We had to move to another cabin, it also had an electric shower but it was connected. So we had hope, but unfortunately no. It didn’t work at all, still a cold shower. My wife got sick with a fever, around new years eve. We decided it would be good for her to have a warm shower to regulate her temperature, so we went to the closest store and bought the only option they had. It needed 220v so we needed to pull more cables, but fine.
Eventually I didn’t got around to connecting it myself, but again one day a guy came and connected it for us. Turned it on and it burned through right away, again, stuck with another broken shower. Still cold.
I was close to give up, and eventually did give up. It was just the way it was.. my girlfriend didn’t want to spend more money etc. But my wife last week was in the store holding a shower, asking me to please try again. It would help her start her day much better. For me it would help a lot too. When I shower, I take my time. My wellness moment, washing away my worries. So, even though our girlfriend didn’t agree, we decided to try again.
Once I got home, I took my time and looked closely at all the instructions, visualizing how it needed to be connected. Triple checked everything.. the cold water came, no leakage. I was happy. Next step, get it to heat up the water..
I connected all the cables, turned it on half power. The water got boiling hot.. and pow, again it broke. I was lost. Another shower ruined. And it was 220v anyway? Not the 127v I thought? What could be it? I wanted to buy another 220v shower to try, but both my wife and girlfriend were done with paying for a shower.
My local friend said, can’t you just swap out the resistance? I went online, yes it should be possible! Okay, against the wishes of my partners I went and bought the resistance part. Now.. still didn’t put it. But will it work?
And then we found out at the same night, our old cabin has a hot shower already.. They fixed the wiring some time ago. I died a little inside.
But I eventually I changed the part, and our shower finally works. I could cry from happiness.
